Maven Infrared Photography Filters (IR590, IR720, IR830)

Maven Infrared Filters let you explore infrared photography without costly or permanent camera changes. Instead of modifying your camera, these filters attach magnetically to your existing setup. As a result, your equipment stays fully intact. At the same time, your creative options expand.

While the human eye sees light between 300–700nm, the infrared spectrum begins at 700nm and extends far beyond visible light. In fact, most camera sensors can detect infrared light. However, built-in IR cut filters block much of it. Therefore, infrared filters are required to access this hidden spectrum.

Understanding Infrared Filter Options

Each Maven Infrared Filter produces a different visual result. In other words, the final look depends on how much visible light is blocked and how much infrared light reaches the sensor. As the wavelength increases, the infrared effect becomes stronger. Because of this, each filter serves a different creative purpose.

IR590 – For Converted Cameras Only

The Maven IR590 Filter is designed only for infrared-converted cameras. Unlike higher-wavelength filters, it allows some visible light to mix with infrared light. As a result, images show bold colors, bright foliage, and dramatic skies.

However, this filter does not work on standard, unconverted cameras. Therefore, it should only be used with a converted camera system.

IR720 – A Gateway to Infrared Photography

The Maven IR720 Filter is an excellent starting point for infrared photography. Most importantly, it works on standard, unmodified cameras. By blocking visible light below 720nm, it allows infrared light to shape the image naturally.

As a result, scenes take on a surreal and timeless look. In addition, the IR720 offers greater flexibility during post-processing. Because of this, it is ideal for photographers learning infrared techniques.

IR830 – Strong Infrared Effect

The Maven IR830 Filter creates a stronger infrared look. Specifically, it blocks visible light below 830nm, which reduces visible light even further. Therefore, contrast becomes deeper and more dramatic.

In comparison to IR720, the IR830 delivers a purer infrared style. Meanwhile, it works especially well for photographers who prefer bold black-and-white infrared images with high contrast.
