Linear Polarizer

The Maven Linear Polarizer enhances colors and reduce unwanted glare. When paired with an existing Maven filter, it creates a Variable Density Filter that provides between 1.3-5 stops of filtration. Simply attach the filter and rotate it until you reach the desired amount of polarization.

Unleash Superior Color Performance with The MAVEN Linear Polarizer Filter!

Linear Polarizers vs Circular Polarizers:

A linear polarizer changes light differently than a circular polarizer. Linear & Circular polarizers start as linear polarizers. The difference between the two is that CPLs also have something called a quarter wave plate which allows light to be transmitted in a helical shape, instead of a linearly oriented wave. It is the shape of these waves that make CPLs best for DSLRs, and LPLs best for mirrorless cameras. Linear Polarizers have better film color while Circular Polarizers have some color shift.

For decades, circular polarizers have been a standard tool for landscape photographers. Polarizers help improve contrast and saturation of certain subject matters. A Circular Polarizer eliminates problems associated with the Mirror Box in SLRs / DSLRs. However, color shifts related to Circular Polarizers have also resulted in a slightly yellowish shift in their images when not color corrected.

While Polarizing Filters enhance colors and reduce unwanted glare, Neutral Density Filters block out light coming into the camera lens.

When a MAVEN Linear Polarizer is paired with an existing MAVEN CPL, it creates a Variable Density Filter that provides between 1.3-5 stops of filtration. By merging a circular polarizer with a linear one, we present our adjustable variable neutral density (ND) filter. Simply attach the filter, and rotate it until you reach the desired amount of polarization.

How a Variable ND Filter Works:

  • Circular Polarizer: This filters out specific light waves. Then, a quarter-wave plate fine-tunes the light.
  • Linear Polarizer: This adjusts how much of that tuned light passes through, based on its alignment.
  • Simple Light Modification: Rotate one polarizer against the other to modify light intensity. It’s perfect for adjusting exposure without changing camera settings like shutter speed.
  • Advantages: Enjoy the convenience of adjusting light with one filter. But, be mindful of possible color changes, especially with major adjustments or wide-angle lenses.
  • Direct Control: Adjust the light hitting your lens effortlessly. Instead of using multiple ND filters, our design lets you easily control light levels with just a twist.

In short, our Linear Polarizer can be turned into a Variable ND filter. It is more than just an accessory. It’s a game-changer for photographers seeking flexibility and precision. Upgrade your photography toolkit today! Be sure to check out Jeffrey Tadlock’s First Look at LPL’s by Maven Filters.
